He heard me handling the plastic bag the replacement parts come in.
Wasn't sure they would include the tool so I got my own out. Good thing they did, as the tip needs to be longer than the ones I have.
Old vs new. Some wear is visible but probably not enough to account for the issues.
Same story here.

New.
Old
T6 tool.
Now that right there looks like a problem.

New lace threaded and even. 10-15cm should extend out here, they say.
One down.
Two down.
Wow do they absolutely say nothing about how to get this spool engaged on its center post. And what to do about the slack in the lace as you do that.
Once you get the spool on, finishing up is easy.
This side is in better shape. Just doing it to keep things even.

The wires are a bit stiff and you pull them tight against the inside of the spool, and they flex back out a bit, blocking the hole.
Stick something in the other side to keep the hole clear?
Seems like it might work
It was really tricky to get to this point again. Actually had to take the dial back off after buttoning it up the first time and trying it. IT tightened but would not loosen.
On the second try things spooled a bit more freely and it was good.
