IMG 3043 Let's see what we need here. 9/16" is the size but 14mm seems to work as a substitute. IMG 3044 Will this work to hold the top of the bolt still while the nut is loosened from underneath? [Editor: no.] IMG 3045 Bolts are long! Deep sockets needed. No 9/16" deep socket on-hand, so we see if the 14mm one will work. IMG 3046 One of the nuts is behind this heat shield. We have to pull out the center of these pop fasteners. Drill and screw in a screw first. IMG 3047 Done. Ready for pulling. IMG 3048 Half-pulled.
IMG 3049 Needs a little help to finish. IMG 3050 Now a screwdriver or two to pull the main plug. IMG 3052 Like so. IMG 3053 Caution: the plug may fly with some velocity once loose. IMG 3054 Will reuse these. IMG 3055 This will work.
IMG 3056 The nut and bolt have been removed so we replace the fastener. IMG 3057 Replace the center bit next. IMG 3058 Tap it in. IMG 3059 This 9/16" nut really didn't like being removed with a 14mm socket. IMG 3060 Still hanging on. Use it to pull the bolt through. IMG 3061 A side trip to the Autozone was required for a proper deep 9/16" socket. This was in the bin of donations at the GoodWill next door.
IMG 3062 Trying to save time. IMG 3063 Will this impact driver and the new bit get things done faster? IMG 3065 Yes, until the adapter fails. IMG 3066 Back to the slow way IMG 3067 Last one! IMG 3068 Of course the last one has yet another gotcha. Can't turn this end with a socket.
IMG 3069 Have to turn this end. IMG 3070 Box wrench won't stay still. Not really surprised. IMG 3071 Vice grips for the win again. IMG 3072 The last nut is free. IMG 3073 Bolts all pulled. This behemoth can come out of the van now. IMG 3074 The view sans foldable chair.
IMG 3078 We go for a trail hike after the hard work. IMG 3080 Then a well deserved beer and tacos for dinner. Koba helped with the slaw.
